Permanent solutions would be found for the issues at the Oluvil Port which have existed for many years, after the problems of fishermen and the neighbouring villages are resolved, said Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Douglas Devananda.
The Minister was speaking at a media conference at Oluvil Harbour yesterday.
He said, “I have received many appeals regarding the Oluvil Harbour and its present situation through social media, telephones and meetings. Several neighbouring villages are badly affected by erosion, which is result of a port project according to the complaints I have received.”
“President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa directed me to visit the Oluvil Harbour to look into the issues here. I will make arrangements to find solutions for the affected families’ livelihood.”
“This Government will promise only what they can do. As it is a big issue, we can’t find solutions immediately. However, permanent solution will be found gradually,” said Minister Devananda.
